Default Which Guild Wars?

I only have the money for one Guild Wars game. Should I get the original, Factions, or Nightfall? Also, what is the advantage of owning each one? (Like what classes are in each one)

Prophecies (original) and Nightfall are better geared for new players than factions. And most people will recommend one or the other. Check this thread out for more information and recommendations for new players:

Prophecies: Probably the slowest leveling out of all the games. The "tutorial stage" is longer, so it's a bit easier on the newbs. Main lacking thing in the tutorial is that you aren't automatically propelled into the tutorial when you make a new character. Of course, the length of pre-searing can get on your nerves sometimes (because you can spend DAYS there without finishing everything). That, and Young Gwen.

Factions: I dunno...I sorta liked the Factions "newb zone". Might be a bit fast for newbs though.

Nightfall: A nice blend of the previous two. Fairly fast leveling speed (you should be at least lv 14 before leaving the "newb zone"), with a good tutorial (when you start).

I started with Nightfall, and I would recommend that one, as it is newer. Hunt down the Collectors Edition if you can, it's still in stores.
But that's not why I think you should start off with that though.
There is a very good tutorial when you start off, and I found the quests and missions very fun and exciting, though that's not to say the other two chapters are not.
I loved playing Nightfall so much, I purchased the other two chapters as soon as I had the chance.
Plus, with Nightfall, you get the use of Heroes, which you earn as you go through the game.
It's basically having your own team when you play. I found this feature to be really fun and useful, as my first few times playing in groups with other players turned out very bad.
Though, I have had more good times with other players than not, I still gots that bad memory of the first few times I played in a group.

The other two chapters do not have heroes, but heroes are good to have for those times you don't want to team up, or are having trouble teaming up with other players.

I've only barely started a character in Prophecies, and it's been fun, but it seems like no one ever wants to team up, they all usually dance around without armor, and try to sell stuff. Not to say that this doesn't happen in the other games.

Factions is cool, but it seems a little more challenging out of the three, I've not made a character there, I usually just jump back and forth with my main Nightfall character, but I will say the missions there are long and fun. I really enjoy the missions there.

You should start off with Nightfall, fall in love with it, and pick up the others as you go along!

Well, it is up to you, but I think you may have fun playing with Heroes and stuff.

I hope I helped out with your decision.
They are all fun though.

lol.

Prophecies is a great place to start and get the real feeling of the Guild Wars universe.

Factions imo has harder gameplay and is filled with glitches as compared to Prophecies and Nightfall. On a positive note leveling a toon up in Factions is very fast and I hit level 20 before getting off noob island most of the time. Maybe I think Factions is the hardest one out of the three because of the programing of the AI/Programing

Nightfall has been very satisfying and a really great game...they have alot of hard areas to master ..but the AI/Programming is done very well.

Prophecies gets my vote as the perfect place to get your feet wet and see what Guild Wars is about.

I'd say prophecies for the reasons stated above. Also i strongly suggest you read the sticky at the top of the Q&A section: For the player on a budget, which Guild Wars should i buy? That sticky would probably give you a more detailed answer.
